The Industrious Inkwell

A literary magazine for Christian writers & artists

  • Breaking news! The Industrious Inkwell is broadening its scope. We launched with the goal of serving the homeschool community at the high school level, but we are now expanding our talent pool to include writers and artists of any age. We are delaying our launch by a month to allow more time for our fellow Christian authors and artists to submit their works. So, mark your calendars for the May launch!

  • Writers:

Write a poem where every line begins with the same letter.

    Artists:

Draw a picture without picking up your pen/pencil/brush from the page.

  • Starting today, I’ll be posting prompts here twice a month. I’ll include one prompt for writing, and one prompt for art in each post. You’re welcome to comment below with whatever you create! Just please keep everything family-friendly.

So, here’s the very first set of prompts:

    For Writers:

Write a short story about a Zoggler. A Zoggler can be whatever you want it to be—an outlandish machine, a magical creature, the name of an eccentric character—be creative!

    For Artists:

Choose a medium you don’t usually use and create a picture of something in the room that you’re in right now.

  • The Industrious Inkwell is a brand new art & lit magazine looking at releasing our first issue in April 2026! If you’re an aspiring author or artist with a Christian worldview, head over to the Submission Guidelines to see if you’re eligible to enter your work. Or, click the subscribe button to have our very first issue delivered straight to your inbox!

  • Thank you for your interest and enthusiasm. I’m excited to work together with this group of artists and authors to produce our very first issue of The Industrious Inkwell Art & Lit Magazine. Below I’ve listed what you need to know in order to get started. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions that are not answered by this document.

    • You must be a homeschooled highschooler to submit your work.
    • We accept original art, poetry, and prose. The poetry/prose may not exceed 2,500 words.
    • All work should be God honoring & family friendly.
    • Work will not be edited so submissions should be ready for “print”.
    • If we have an overwhelming number of contributions, we will limit each individual to 3 works.
    • Along with your entry, please include 2-3 sentences about you as an artist/author. For example, you could include your grade or age, home state, career aspiration, or a brief explanation of what inspires you. Be sure to use 12-point font in black ink that’s readable. Art can be black & white or colored.
    • We publish 4 times a year: April, July, October, January
    • Entries must be submitted by the 15th of the preceding month
    • All submissions should be emailed to seschall.music@gmail.com
